Using
the Find or Search Command
Some
versions of Windows have a built-in Find command,
while other versions have a built-in Search Command.
Both commands function in the same manner, but keep
in mind that they do not search the Recycle Bin
for files.
To
Use the Find or Search Command:
(Note:
The specific instructions for this search are
for Windows 2000. Instructions may slightly vary
for other versions of Windows.)
1.
Press the Windows key on the keyboard + F to
call the Find or Search command for all versions
of Windows. A Find or Search dialog box will
appear.
2.
To search for a file with a specific name, type
in the filename in the Search for files or folders
named box.
3.
Specify where to search for the file, by making
a selection from the Look in pull-down menu.
4.
Click the Search Now button to begin the search.
Windows will begin the search and display the
results.
To
Search by Date, Time, or File Size:
1.
Click on Search Options >>.
2.
Click on the box beside Date, Time, and/or Size.
Select the desired specifications from the pull-down
menus that appear with the selected option(s).
3.
Click the Search Now button to begin the search.
Windows will conduct the search and display
the results.
